02 | Jack Parow MV

For this project, our class was given the opportunity to create a music video for a track of our choice from Jack Parow's album Die Evangelie Van Goeie Tye. We were given complete creative freedom to interpret the song and bring it to life visually. I chose the song There It Is, and my vision for the music video was to produce something visually striking that fits with the song's energetic vibe.

Problem Statement

One of the main challenges of this project was balancing the high-energy nature of the song with the smooth, flowing style I envisioned for the visuals. The song’s intense beats and catchy rhythm needed to be complemented by a video that matched its pace, while also maintaining a sense of relaxed, almost hypnotic fluidity. The stark black-and-white color scheme presented an additional challenge in terms of creating visual interest and depth, requiring careful attention to lighting, contrast, and the overall atmosphere.

Goals

To create a visually compelling music video that captures the energetic vibe of There It Is.

Aims

To integrate motion graphics and animation in a way that feels fluid and cohesive with the music.

Objectives

Develop a storyboard and animation sequences that pair effectively with the song’s transitions and beats.

Intended Audience

The target audience for this music video includes Jack Parow's fanbase, which primarily consists of young adults and fans of South African hip-hop and rap. The visual style and animation choices were also designed to appeal to music video enthusiasts who appreciate bold, experimental, and artistic video concepts. The video aims to resonate with casual song listeners and more dedicated fans who follow Jack Parow’s artistic journey.

Solution

The music video blends abstract, surreal visuals with strobe effects and black-and-white contrasts, aligning with the energetic rhythm of the song. The use of soft animations combined with sudden flashes of movement creates an engaging visual experience, reflecting the song's fluidity and unpredictability. The video moves between abstract, animated sequences and animated typography, as the song progresses, the video builds layers of motion, keeping the viewer intrigued and engaged with every beat.

Storyboard

There It Is

“The black and white actually works great. Feels like a strobe light and I can just imagine this strobing inside a club as visuals and people loving it! The soft style of the animation is really great and makes it feel crazy but also very chill at the same time which I love. Overall engaging and entertaining”
